Colombian Minister of Defense Visits SOUTHCOM

By SOUTHCOM Public Affairs

MIAMI (Feb. 4, 2020) -- Colombia's Minister of Defense, Carlos Holmes Trujillo, visited U.S. Southern Command Feb. 4 to meet with SOUTHCOM commander, U.S. Navy Adm. Craig Faller, and command leadership to discuss security cooperation.

Trujillo’s stop at SOUTHCOM is part of the minister’s trip to the United States to meet with U.S. defense leadership. He is scheduled to meet with Secretary of Defense Mark T. Esper later this week. Trujillo visited Joint Interagency Task Force-South in Key West, Fla., Feb. 3.

Trujillo’s visit comes a week after U.S. and Colombian paratroopers completed a week-long airborne assault training exercise in Colombia. The exercise included 75 paratroopers from the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, N.C, and 40 personnel from U.S. Army South.

Faller previously met with Trujillo in Bogota, Colombia, Jan. 13 during the admiral’s trip to the nation to discuss bilateral cooperation and regional security.

The U.S. and Colombia share a strong, longstanding partnership focused on regional security and counter-illicit trafficking.
