Honduran Minister of Defense Visits SOUTHCOM

By SOUTHCOM Public Affairs

MIAMI (Feb. 25, 2020) -- Honduran Minister of Defense, Fredy Diaz, visited U.S. Southern Command Feb. 25 to meet with SOUTHCOM commander, U.S. Navy Adm. Craig Faller, and command leadership to discuss security cooperation.

The United States and Honduras share a strong partnership and commitment to regional security. Both nation’s forces contribute to countering illicit trafficking in Central America and routinely take part in bilateral and multinational training in the region.

Honduras also hosts the U.S. military’s Joint Task Force-Bravo, located at Soto Cano Air Base. The task force supports training engagements, counterdrug missions and humanitarian/disaster relief efforts in the region.

In November 2019 in Honduras, Faller presented the Legion of Merit to then-Chief of the Armed Forces, Maj. Gen. René Ponce Fonseca, for “significant contributions” to the U.S.-Honduras military-to-military relationship.

Honduras is a trusted partner in efforts to combat illicit traffickers in Central America.
