Given 00:52.291 --> 00:55.154 that there's no audiologist within the 00:55.154 --> 00:57.514 entire island of Saint Kitts and Nevis , 00:57.674 --> 00:59.784 um , hearing screenings , um , 00:59.955 --> 01:02.955 diagnostic tests , um , and any sort of 01:02.955 --> 01:05.724 hearing aids for treatment , um , 01:05.834 --> 01:08.154 aren't provided for , um , local 01:08.154 --> 01:10.394 community members . Hearing loss can 01:10.394 --> 01:13.635 start at any age . um , you can be born 01:13.635 --> 01:15.746 with hearing loss and you can develop 01:15.746 --> 01:17.968 it later on in life , um , regardless . 01:17.968 --> 01:20.129 If services aren't available here , 01:20.260 --> 01:23.660 people wouldn't know um the impact and 01:23.660 --> 01:25.900 the significance of what hearing loss 01:25.900 --> 01:28.300 can have on the individual but also 01:28.300 --> 01:30.819 their family members um communication 01:30.819 --> 01:33.419 is always a two way street , so if 01:33.419 --> 01:35.419 we're able to identify hearing loss 01:35.419 --> 01:37.363 earlier on , we're usually able to 01:37.363 --> 01:39.910 provide treatment a lot earlier , um , 01:39.940 --> 01:42.180 which can , you know , increase quality 01:42.180 --> 01:44.705 of life but also help . Um , our future 01:44.705 --> 01:46.927 generations , every day has been really 01:46.927 --> 01:50.875 rewarding . I do feel that when we went 01:50.875 --> 01:53.084 to the schools , the primary schools 01:53.084 --> 01:55.644 for hearing screenings that day was 01:55.644 --> 01:59.605 simply above and beyond .
