Ambassador Stephanie Syptak-Ramnath assumed duties as Civilian Deputy to the Commander and Senior Foreign Policy Advisor, U.S. Southern Command, Miami, FL, in June 2025. Ambassador Syptak-Ramnath provides the Commander and senior staff with geopolitical, political military, and economic counsel. She leads the Command's relationship with the Department of State and U.S. Embassies abroad and strengthens relations with foreign and interagency partners.
The Ambassador supports the Command’s message development and strategic communication, driving integration, alignment, and collaboration across the USSOUTHCOM enterprise and across the U.S. government.
Prior to her arrival at USSOUTHCOM, Ambassador Syptak-Ramnath served as U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Peru (2024-2025). Previous leadership assignments include Deputy Chief of Mission at U.S. Embassy Mexico (2021-2023), Deputy Executive Secretary in the Office of the Secretary of State (2019-2021), Chargé d’Affaires at U.S. Embassy Singapore (2017-2019), Minister Counselor for Public Diplomacy at U.S. Embassy Mexico (2014-2016), Deputy Chief of Mission in Bamako, Mali (2012-2013), and Senior Deputy Director in the Office of Public Diplomacy in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs (2012-2012). Earlier in her career, she completed postings in Tunis, Tunisia, the U.S. Mission to the United Nations, and Monterrey, Mexico.
Ambassador Syptak-Ramnath is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service with the rank of Career Minister. She is the recipient of numerous honors and awards, including a 2021 Presidential Rank Award and the 2015 Department of State’s Edward R. Murrow Award for Excellence in Public Diplomacy. Prior to joining the Foreign Service, Ambassador Syptak-Ramnath served as an officer in the U.S. Navy. She is a graduate of Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service and a member of the International Women’s Forum Leadership Foundation 2011-2012 Fellows Class, for which she completed executive programs at Harvard Business School and INSEAD.
A native of Texas, she is married and has two daughters. She speaks Spanish and French.
