Submitting a FOIA Request

NOTICE: As a result of increases in the Health Protection Condition (HPCON) level, our offices are limited to mission-essential personnel only and maximizing the use of telework for other personnel. This means that we are unable to handle requests sent via traditional methods and can only respond to electronic inquiries while under elevated HPCON levels.

If you want to submit a FOIA request, please send a written request by mail, fax or email. Describe the records you want as specifically as possible and state the amount of fees that you are willing to pay.

Electronically:

  1. Review and fill out one of the templates:
  2. PDF FOIA Form  |  Word FOIA Form
  3. Send requests via:
    a. email to: southcom.miami.sc-cc.mbx.southcomfoia@mail.mil
    b. fax to: (305) 437-1320

By Mail:

  1. Draft a request letter to include the following elements:
    a. Full name and a complete physical address
    b. A reasonable description of the record(s) requested
    c. A statement of your fee category and your willingness to pay applicable fees
  2. Send requests to:

Notice on collection of information via Southcom.mil online forms

When receiving public requests via our online forms SOUTHCOM collects information from users so that requests can be reviewed, managed and processed. Information collected from users may include full name, mailing address, telephone number, e-mail address, company name, address and contact information, and requested topic of information. The information collected will only be used by SOUTHCOM staff working on requests. The online request forms policy is reviewed and updated annually to ensure system access only by appropriate staff and through technical security with user name log-in and passwords. Records are retained in accordance with records management policy.
