SAINT MARTIN – U.S. Marines Col. Michael V. Samarov, center, commander of Joint Task Force - Leeward Islands, and Capt. The Marines discussed possible locations to set up Lightweight Water Purification Systems in order to produce potable water for communities on the island most affected by the storm. At the request of partner nations, JTF-LWI is currently deploying aircraft and service members to areas in the eastern Caribbean Sea affected by Hurricane Irma. The Joint Task Force is a U.S. military unit composed of Marines, Soldiers, Sailors, and Airmen, and represents U.S. Southern Command’s primary response to Hurricane Irma.
