Paraguayan President-elect Mario Abdo Benitez visited U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) today. He met with Adm. Kurt Tidd, SOUTHCOM commander, and other senior leaders to discuss the U.S.-Paraguay defense partnership.
Abdo Benitez is in the U.S. for meetings as he prepares to assume duties as President of Paraguay Aug. 15. The close, collaborative ties between the United States and Paraguay include many decades of strong security cooperation based on common interests, shared goals and mutual respect.
During the visit, SOUTHCOM briefed the president-elect on the command's mission and its commitment to working closely with enduring partners across the region, like Paraguay, to support lasting peace and stability in the Western Hemisphere.
