Soldiers, Airmen return from Haiti relief mission

JOINT BASE LANGLEY-EUSTIS, Va. — Logistics In Action: Article originally appeared on the Joint Base Langley-Eustis website — A U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III from Dover Air Force Base, Deleware, transported about 20 members of the 689th Rapid Port Opening Element from Haiti to Joint Base Langley-Eustis Oct. 20, 2016. The Soldiers spent about two weeks supporting disaster relief and humanitarian assistance efforts as a result of Hurricane Matthew.

U.S. Military Concludes Haiti Post-Hurricane Humanitarian Effort

WASHINGTON — The 400 service members who took part in Hurricane Matthew humanitarian relief efforts in Haiti are expected to return home soon, Navy Admiral Kurt W. Tidd, commander of U.S. Southern Command, told reporters.

U.S. Army UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter pilots with Company A, 1st Battalion, 228th Aviation Regiment, deployed in support of Joint Task Force Matthew, fly toward Jeremie, Haiti, Oct. 10, 2016. JTF Matthew, a U.S. Southern Command-directed team, is comprised of Marines with Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force – Southern Command and soldiers from Joint Task Force-Bravo’s 1st Battalion, 228th Aviation Regiment, and is deployed to Port-au-Prince at the request of the Government of Haiti on a mission to provide humanitarian and disaster relief assistance in the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew.
