U.S. Coast Guard Cutter James Visits Buenos Aires, Argentina

The U.S. Coast Guard Cutter James (WMSL 754) and its crew arrived April 29 at the Port of Buenos Aires. This visit marks a significant moment in the ongoing partnership between the U.S. and Argentina, aimed at enhancing maritime security and combating illicit activities at sea. During this visit, the crew will also conduct joint drills on the high seas with their Argentine counterparts, emphasizing the collaborative spirit of this mission.

Coast Guard Cutter crews conduct first high-seas boardings off the coast of Peru, under new SPRFMO measure

The crews of the Coast Guard Cutters Alder, Terrell Horne and an HC-130 Hercules aircraft recently completed the first high-seas boardings and inspections, in the Eastern Pacific Ocean, under a newly adopted conservation and management measure to monitor and inspect fishing and transshipment operations at-sea in the South Pacific Regional Fisheries Management Organization (SPRFMO) Convention Area.

U.S. Southern Command, FIU Host IUU Fishing Conference in Search of Solutions

The U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM), in conjunction with Florida International University (FIU), convened senior U.S. government leaders and subject matter experts from across the government, non-profits, civil society, academia, and private industry at the university’s campus Nov. 2 for talks on how to better understand information sharing initiatives and challenges, and leverage emerging technologies to counter illegal, unregulated and unreported (IUU) fishing and improve monitoring of the maritime domain.
