Step 1: Not Later Than 60 Days Prior to Arrival

- Plan your move
  Review the MilitaryOneSource Plan My Move site: https://planmymove.militaryonesource.mil/
  
  and the Move.mil website -- specifically: https://move.mil/moving-guide to plan your move.
- Contact the Housing Office
  Military Housing. The rental housing market in South Florida has a number of unique challenges for service members and their families, so it is imperative that service members contact the housing office well in advance of reporting to Miami.

  The installation does not have any on-base temporary, unaccompanied or family housing.
  
  -- If you are single/unaccompanied and E5 or below, you can be accommodated in Army-leased off-base unaccompanied housing.

- Assistance with Advanced BAH
  When allowed by Service regulations, a Service Member’s losing unit commanding officer, designee, or designated official may authorize an Advance BAH payment to pay advance rent, security deposits, or initial expenses due to occupying other than Government housing. An Advance BAH payment may be authorized at any time during a Service Member’s tour at the location concerned or when a Service Member’s has relocated due to a Permanent Change of Station (PCS) order. Repayment of any Advance BAH should be at a rate of at least one twelfth of the amount advanced in equal monthly installments for the next 12 months.
  
  J1 Navy Desk: Sailors will complete the Advance BAH Request form (NPPSC 7000/2 (04-2017), provide orders, and a pre-rental agreement with the actual expense. ADVBAH cannot exceed 3 months of BAH for any Sailor’s paygrade. Sailors E-4 over 4 years of service and E-5 and above are allowed to move off base. The advance must be approved by the commanding officer and can take 2 weeks to a month to process before any funds are received. The advance will be deducted from the monthly pay. - Start learning spanish (if not already fluent)
  The Department of the Army Libraries system provides access to free language training resources such as Mango Languages (over 70 world languages to choose from). All you need is a library account.

Step 2: Not Later Than 45 Days Prior to Arrival
- Schedule Your Move
  Use the Defense Personal Property System (DPS) to schedule your move with a transportation company.
  
  -- Sign In to DPS to schedule your move online (Find out if you’re eligible to use DPS to schedule your upcoming move).
  
  -- If you are doing a Personally Procured Moves (PPM) / Do It Yourself Moves (DITY): Visit move.mil, There you should view the PPM checklist, then register at the Defense Personal Property System, fill out and submit DD 2278 to complete your move.
  
  -- If you're doing a joint move (a.k.a., a dual military move with your active duty spouse), please visit your local personal property office to get help scheduling your move.
  
  -- Follow online tutorials for help logging in or using DPS.
  
  -- Visit PCSmyPOV to schedule an appointment at your assigned Vehicle Processing Center.

  Motorcycle Safety Training Program
  
  USAG-Miami has a Motorcycle Mentor at (305)437-0288 and a Safety Office at (305)437-1143.

- Collect Documents for inprocessing with Navy Desk
  Bring the following documents with you for in-processing:
  - PCS orders
  - Complete Inbound Data Request and send via E-mail to the J1 Sponsorship Specialist
  - Dependency Application /Record of Emergency Data (Page 2)
  - Servicemembers’ Group Life Insurance (SGLI)
  - Other applicable documents (marriage certificate, divorce decree, and/or child custody agreement, Government Credit card)
- Register for Joint Knowledge Online and complete SOUTHCOM Required Training
  To Register for JKO and SOUTHCOM training:

  - DD1797 - Counseling Checklist: This form will be automatically generated by the Defense Personal Property system upon completion of self counseling.
