Mr. Brian K. Peterson became the Garrison Manager of the United States Army Garrison-Miami effective July 21, 2025.
Mr. Peterson previously served as the USAG DPG Deputy Garrison Manager since April 2022, bringing over 24 years of experience as an Army Civilian to the role. His diverse career reflects a commitment to public service and a broad range of expertise.
From Entrepreneur to Public Servant: After a successful period as a small business owner working in various locations across the United States, Mr. Peterson embarked on his government career during his high school years working in the Carpentry Shop, building ammo crates and blocking Army vehicles on freight trains. Years later he returned full time as a Security Guard at Deseret Chemical Depot. What began as a short-term endeavor evolved into a long and distinguished career.
A Diverse Career of Service: Mr. Peterson's career progression demonstrates his adaptability, dedication, and deep functional expertise across IMCOM. He has held a variety of increasingly responsible positions, including Security Guard, Police Officer, Drug Testing Coordinator, Army Substance Abuse Director, Employee Assistance Program Manager, Program Analyst for Environmental Programs, Program Analyst for Department of Public Works (BOID), Contract Management Specialist, Budget Officer, Resource Management Officer, and Deputy Garrison Manager at both USAG Dugway Proving Ground and USAG-Miami. This breadth of experience has provided him with a comprehensive understanding of garrison operations, including critical areas such as directly advising 4-star Combatant Commanders on installation matters, pioneering innovative portfolio financing strategies for military housing privatization, leading the Garrison through hurricane preparations and ensuring continuity of operations, successfully mediating complex personnel conflicts, and skillfully managing high-visibility events like a 4-star change of command. Throughout his career, Mr. Peterson has been a strong advocate for soldiers and their families, working tirelessly to address their needs and improve their overall well-being.
Education and Professional Development: Mr. Peterson earned an Associate of Arts from Snow College and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Utah State University. He has also pursued extensive coursework in Business Management and Spanish. His commitment to professional development is evident in his Army Cost Management Certificate from the University of South Carolina Postgraduate School, his Funds Management Certification Level Three, and his certification as a Defense Funds Manager.
Recognition and Personal Life: Mr. Peterson's contributions have been recognized with a Meritorious Civilian Service Commendation Medal, two Achievement Award Medals for Civilian Service and two Commanders Award Medals for Civilian Service. He has been married to Suzanne, a Registered Nurse, for 33 years, and they are proud parents of four children. In his leisure time, Mr. Peterson enjoys fly fishing, hiking, wake surfing, snowboarding, and spending time outdoors.
