Southcom Chief Stresses Need for Partnerships, Security Cooperation

External states are working hard to get a foothold in South America, and they want to exert even greater influence there than they already do. Strong partnerships are the way to counter that effort, the commander of U.S. Southern Command said in a Senate hearing.

USNS Comfort Arrives in Peru to Provide Medical Assistance

Hospital ship USNS Comfort (T-AH 20) arrived in Callao, Peru, for the second mission stop of its 2019 deployment, July 8. U.S. service members and medical professionals will work alongside international partner and host nation medical professionals to provide much-needed medical assistance in communities with urgent health care needs, including local populations and vulnerable Venezuelans who have fled to Peru from the humanitarian crisis in Venezuela.

Comfort Completes First Medical Mission of 2019 Deployment in Manta

During Comfort’s six-day medical mission in Manta, 320 medical professionals of the United States Navy and seven partner nations provided care for 7,799 patients and performed more than 120 surgeries aboard the ship.

U.S. Army medics from Joint Task Force - Bravo Medical Element transport a burn victim to a casualty collection point during a joint training exercise, June 26, 2019, at Soto Cano Air Base, Honduras. Members from Joint Task Force – Bravo’s Medical Element, 612th Air Base Squadron firefighters and 480th Military Police Company worked together to accomplish goals during the training event. The event involved the firefighters entering a smoke-filled building to recover burn casualties while the Medical Element performed triage at the scene.
