Latin American Cadets visit SOUTHCOM air component

Twenty-two cadets from 11 Latin American nations participated in the initiative that has been sponsored by the Office of the Secretary of the Air Force for International Affairs program since 2006.

American, Canadian, Ecuadorian Service Members Exchange Techniques for Medicine in a Tactical Environment

American, Canadian and Ecuadorian combat medics and hospital corpsmen gathered at a medical site, established by the hospital ship USNS Comfort (T-AH 20) in Esmeraldas, Ecuador, to teach each other the different methods that each country uses for medicine in a tactical environment, Oct. 27.

USNS Comfort Wraps Up Medical Assistance Mission in Ecuador

ESMARALDAS, Ecuador – Senior leadership and personnel embarked aboard the hospital ship USNS Comfort (T-AH 20) attended a closing ceremony at a medical site, in Esmeraldas, Ecuador, following five days of treating patients, Oct. 26.

Senior Master Sgt. Angel Correa, an airborne sensor operator and linguist with the Host Nation Rider program, a component of the larger National Guard Counterdrug program, used his Spanish language skills and knowledge of maritime communications during the rescue of four boaters off Costa Rica's southern coast in mid-October. The rescue was a first for Correa, who was aboard a Coast Guard HC-130 Super Hercules aircraft in a joint counterdrug operation when he coordinated the rescue efforts.

Air Guard member instrumental in rescue of four boaters

ARLINGTON, Va. – When a small boat capsized off Costa Rica's southern coast in mid-October, Senior Master Sgt. Angel L. Correa sprung to action from a U.S. Coast Guard HC-130J Super Hercules aircraft to save the four people aboard the foundering craft.

On June 3 of this year, the Fuego volcano, which lies near Guatemala City, erupted sending ash and a pyroclastic flow through homes and neighborhoods. By June 5, 99 people were reported dead, more than 200 were missing, and thousands of Guatemalans were displaced.
