Joint Task Force-Bravo’s Headquarters Support Company Gives Back

By Senior Airman Jovan Banks Joint Task Force - Bravo

U.S. servicemembers from the Army Forces Battalion Headquarters Support Company at Soto Cano Air Base, Honduras, delivered charitable donations to the Horizontes al Futuro Orphanage in Comayagua Honduras, Sept. 5, 2020.

The Headquarters Support Company (HSC) is the sponsor for the Horizontes al Futuro Orphanage, and prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the unit visited regularly to offer their time to strengthen community morale as well as offer donations to the children at the orphanage. The visit was the first time in months that group has been able to visit the orphanage using appropriate COVID-19 precautions for the safety of both groups.

“Seeing the children’s reaction when they get to see us again and how they appreciate our support is the most rewarding part,” said Capt. Joseph Sierra, the HSC Company Commander. “Being available to support the orphans here in Honduras in the most amazing and rewarding experience.”

The donations given to the orphanage included clothing, shoes, food, and a $1000 offering to help with the needs of the orphanage.

Although the children and volunteers were not able to interact with each other in the same manner they would during a normal visit, due to COVID-19 safety precautions that did not mask the volunteer’s eagerness to see the children.

“We were not able to interact with the kids and could only drop off what we brought them and have a brief conversation from a distance,” said Spc. Matthew Ivey, a disbursing specialist assigned the Joint Task Force-Bravo Army Forces Command Battalion.

“It was great seeing the kids react to us bringing them much needed shoes and clothes as well as bringing them pizza. I would definitely go again…I hope that we will soon be able to play sports together.”
