Ecuador’s Gen. Fabián Fuel Revelo Visits SOUTHCOM

MIAMI (April 1, 2022) – The commander of U.S. Southern Command, U.S. Army Gen. Laura Richardson, hosted Ecuadorian Gen. Fabián Fuel Revelo, Chief of the Joint Staff, Ecuador Armed Forces, at SOUTHCOM headquarters April 1.

Gen. Richardson and Gen. Fuel discussed the longstanding U.S.-Ecuador defense partnership. Gen. Fuel also met with other SOUTHCOM senior leaders and was briefed on the command’s mission and cooperation with Ecuador’s military.

The U.S. and Ecuadorian armed forces enjoy a long history of security cooperation focused on topics of mutual interest; including air and maritime security; global peacekeeping; illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing; transnational organized crime; humanitarian assistance; and human rights.

In September 2021, SOUTHCOM and the Armed Forces of Ecuador signed an agreement formalizing Ecuador's participation in a regional info-sharing system used to combat narco-trafficking.
