Coast Guard Cutter Spencer returns home; seized $92 million in cocaine

During their patrol, the crew interdicted four drug-laden vessels, resulting in the seizure of approximately 1,400 kilograms (3,080 lbs.) of cocaine worth more than $92 million. They also apprehended 13 suspected smugglers with the help of their deployed helicopter crew.

The crew of U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Diligence returned to Wilmington Tuesday following a 62-day patrol in the Eastern Pacific. The Diligence crew patrolled in support of the Joint Interagency Task Force (JIATF) South in the Eastern Pacific. Along with JIATF South, the U.S. Coast Guard works alongside interagency and international partners to prevent and respond to illegal maritime migration and narcotics smuggling from South and Central America.

ST. GEORGE'S, Grenada - The Coast Guard Cutter Heriberto Hernández participated in a joint gunnery exercise June 9, 2016 off the coast of St. George’s, Grenada, during Exercise Tradewinds 2016. Assets from Canada, France, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados and the United States participated in the joint gunnery exercise, which trains ship crews in the delivery of weapons fire from .50 caliber machine guns and 20MM auto-cannons. Each of the nations participating in Tradewinds operates one or both of these weapon systems.
