Southcom Commander: Illicit Networks Are Region’s Greatest Security Challenge

WASHINGTON — Navy Adm. Kurt W. Tidd, commander of U.S. Southern Command, said the Southcom area of responsibility has been characterized by the absence of ongoing armed conflict between nations for some time, but it's not a region without challenges.

This 2006 photograph depicts a female Aedes aegypti mosquito, the species of mosquito primarily responsible for the spread of the Zika virus disease to people. The most common symptoms of Zika are fever, rash, joint pain, and conjunctivitis, or red eyes. Tidd: ‘Whole-of-Hemisphere’ Fighting Zika Virus

WASHINGTON — U.S. Southern Command is just part of the “whole-of-hemisphere” approach to combating the Zika virus, Navy Adm. Kurt W. Tidd Southcom's commander, said at a Council of the Americas forum on Zika and the Americas.
