Secretary Del Toro Travels to Argentina for the XVI Conference of Defense Ministers of the Americas

From October 13-16, 2024, Secretary of the Navy Carlos Del Toro led the United States delegation to the XVI Conference of Defense Ministers of the Americas (CDMA) in Mendoza, Argentina. CDMA is the premier defense forum in the Western Hemisphere, convening the senior most national security and defense officials biennially. This year's event featured discussions on the responsible use of artificial intelligence, and climate and environmental challenges from a defense perspective.

U.S. Southern Command Donates Two Mobile Clinics to the People of Trinidad and Tobago

On September 18, the United States Southern Command’s (SOUTHCOM) Humanitarian Assistance Program through the U.S. Embassy Port of Spain donated two mobile medical units, known as “Clinics in a Can,” valued at US$490,534 to the people of Trinidad and Tobago through the Ministry of Health.

At the direction of the Secretary of the Air Force, Air Forces Southern was elevated to a Service Component Command.  The Air Force is organizing its major commands, or MAJCOMs, into Institutional Commands, responsible for organizing, training, and equipping Airmen, and Service Component Commands, responsible for preparing Airmen for warfighting in a combatant command’s area of responsibility. U.S. Marine Corps and Brazilian Naval Infantry launch Exercise FORMOSA to strengthen regional security

U.S. Marine Corps Forces, South and the Brazilian Naval Infantry (CFN) commenced Exercise Formosa today, a major Brazilian military exercise with U.S. participation aimed at enhancing the bilateral training partnership between the United States Marine Corps and Brazil and strengthening regional security.

U.S. and Chilean Marines introduce themselves at Destacamento de Infanteria Marina Number 4 (Chilean Marine Detachment Number 4) “Cochrane”,, Chile, during exercise UNITAS LXV, Sep. 2, 2024. The Marines split into two integrated teams led by Chilean officers and U.S. staff-noncommissioned officers during the exercise to facilitate the bilateral training and lateral knowledge exchanges that will occur between nations. By working together with allies and partners, Marines amass the greatest possible strength for the long-term advancement of their interests, maintaining favorable balances of power that deter aggression and support the stability that supports economic growth. U.S. Marines launch UNITAS LXV in Chile with 24 Nations

U.S. Marine Corps forces joined with 24 other nations to commence UNITAS LXV, the 65th iteration of the world’s longest-running multinational maritime exercise here on Sept. 2, 2024. UNITAS is an annual exercise conducted in either the Atlantic or Pacific waters around Central America and South America. UNITAS brings like-minded Allies and partners from around the world to strengthen relationships, enhance interoperability and facilitate collective defense and global security.
