Reservists help school children in need

During a combined humanitarian and training mission, a C-17 Globemaster III from the 315th Airlift Wing, Joint Base Charleston, South Carolina, delivered educational supplies to St. Kitts and Nevis on July 25, 2020. The mission was planned to maintain the aircrews flying readiness requirements, while also delivering school supplies to the citizens of St. Kitts and Nevis.

Trump Visits Southern Command for Briefing on Campaign Against Drug Traffickers

President Donald J. Trump travelled to Florida this morning for a briefing on what he said has been a successful operation to cut the flow of illegal drugs into the United States. Defense Secretary Dr. Mark T. Esper accompanied the president to U.S. Southern Command headquarters, where Trump was briefed on the campaign against drug traffickers. The whole-of-government and international operation against international drug cartels involves 16 federal agencies and 20 international partners.

U.S. Marine task force holds opening ceremony for crisis response deployment

U.S. Marines and Sailors with Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force – Southern Command held an opening ceremony to officially kick off the start of their crisis response deployment at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, June 26. Disrupting Drug Traffickers - USS Tornado Completes Counter Drug Patrol

Cyclone-class patrol ship USS Tornado (PC 14) returned to Mayport, Florida, May 13, following a 68-day counter narcotics patrol in the U.S. 4th Fleet area of responsibility. Tornado contributed to Joint Interagency Task Force South’s disruption of more than 35,000 kilograms of cocaine and almost 4,000 pounds of marijuana. This led to keeping an estimated wholesale price of 716 million dollars’ worth of drugs off U.S. streets.

Coast Guard, UK Royal Navy, U.S. Law Enforcement Seize Cocaine in the Caribbean Sea

The Coast Guard, United Kingdom Royal Navy and U.S. law enforcement partners seized 1,400 kilograms (3,086) pounds of cocaine and detained nine suspected smugglers following the interdiction of two separate drug smuggling events in the Caribbean Sea Jan. 24 and Jan. 30, 2020. The seized drug shipments are estimated to have a wholesale value of more than $46.2 million.

USS Detroit Returns for Maiden Mid-Deployment Scheduled Maintenance

In order to swap out crews, USS Detroit (LCS 7) with embarked Gold crew, returned to her Mayport, Florida homeport Feb. 2. The scheduled, pierside pause comes in the midst of the Freedom-variant littoral combat ship’s maiden deployment. While inport, the Gold crew will rotate off following turnover with the Blue crew. The visit will also include a short maintenance period.
