U.S. Gen. Laura Richardson, commander of U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM), welcomed distinguished guests from Washington, D.C., the Department of Defense, and leaders from Miami-Dade County to the groundbreaking ceremony for the future site of the new military housing complex supporting the command.

Joint Task Force – Bravo received a unique request during U.S. Southern Command’s Health Engagements Assistance Response Team HEART 2022 mission to work alongside partner nation medical professionals to provide surgical and medical services to communities in Guatemala and Honduras.

LIMA, Peru (Jan. 19, 2023) Capt. Franca Jones, commanding officer, Naval Medical Research Unit (NAMRU)-6, greets attendees at the command’s 40th anniversary celebration at the U.S. Embassy Campus. NAMRU-6 hosted several visitors and guests from the U.S. and Peru at the event, to include U.S. Ambassador to Peru Lisa Kenna, Rear Adm. NAMRU-6 Celebrates 40 Years of Medical Research

LIMA, Peru -- Naval Medical Research Unit (NAMRU)-6 hosted a 40th birthday celebration at the U.S. Embassy campus to recognize the accomplishments and mission of the command on Jan. 19.

During the initial planning conference for exercise Southern Vanguard 24 in Macapa, Brazil, Dec 5-8, 2022, Master Sgt. Rob Mitchell and a Brazilian army infantry officer discuss training scenarios, logistical requirements and training objectives for the bilateral event scheduled in the fall of 2023. Southern Vanguard is a U.S. Southern Command-sponsored, U.S. Army South-conducted exercise at the operational and tactical levels to increase interoperability between U.S. and Western Hemisphere forces.
New York National Guard, Brazil Plan Major Joint Exercise

The New York Army National Guard has begun laying the groundwork for a joint exercise with the Brazilian military in the fall. The planning conference for the Southern Vanguard 24 exercise was held in Brazil the first week of December, according to U.S. Army Maj. Melanie Padilla, the New York National Guard state planner.
