SOUTHCOM Provides Medical Assistance to Lesser Antilles

Following in the wake of the United States Naval Ship Comfort's recent deployment for operation Continuing Promise, U.S. Southern Command (USSOUTHCOM) has kicked off operation Lesser Antilles Medical Assistance Team (LAMAT) this week beginning with the arrival of U.S. Military personnel at USSOUTHCOM headquarters in Miami Florida, January 25, 2023

Southern Command holds groundbreaking ceremony for new military housing complex

U.S. Gen. Laura Richardson, commander of U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM), welcomed distinguished guests from Washington, D.C., the Department of Defense, and leaders from Miami-Dade County to the groundbreaking ceremony for the future site of the new military housing complex supporting the command.

Colombia's Gen. Helder Giraldo Visits SOUTHCOM

U.S. Army Gen. Laura Richardson, commander of U.S. Southern Command, hosted the General Commander of the Colombian Military Forces, Gen. Helder Giraldo, at the command's headquarters in Miami today.

During the initial planning conference for exercise Southern Vanguard 24 in Macapa, Brazil, Dec 5-8, 2022, Master Sgt. Rob Mitchell and a Brazilian army infantry officer discuss training scenarios, logistical requirements and training objectives for the bilateral event scheduled in the fall of 2023. Southern Vanguard is a U.S. Southern Command-sponsored, U.S. Army South-conducted exercise at the operational and tactical levels to increase interoperability between U.S. and Western Hemisphere forces.

New York National Guard, Brazil Plan Major Joint Exercise

The New York Army National Guard has begun laying the groundwork for a joint exercise with the Brazilian military in the fall. The planning conference for the Southern Vanguard 24 exercise was held in Brazil the first week of December, according to U.S. Army Maj. Melanie Padilla, the New York National Guard state planner.

SOUTHCOM Commander Visits Colombia, Brazil

U.S. Army Gen. Laura Richardson, the commander of U.S. Southern Command, visited Colombia and Brazil this week, meeting with leaders to discuss security cooperation.

SOUTHCOM Commander Visits Guyana, Suriname

The commander of U.S. Southern Command, U.S. Army Gen. Laura Richardson, completed a 4-day visit to Guyana and Suriname where she met with senior leaders to reaffirm U.S. support of the security partnership with each nation.
