SOUTHCOM Commander Visits Jamaica, Strengthens Partnership with ‘Regional Security Leader’

The Commander of U.S. Southern Command, U.S. Army Gen. Laura Richardson, visited Jamaica Jan. 20-22, meeting with security leaders to reaffirm support of the U.S.-Jamaica security partnership. Richardson also attended the historic Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) change-of-command Jan. 21 as Rear Adm. Antonette Wemyss-Gorman was sworn in as the force’s first female Chief of Defence Staff.

U.S. Army Gen. Laura Richardson, commander of U.S. Southern Command, visited Brazil Nov. 22-24 where she met with military leaders to discuss regional security and the growing defense partnership between the Western Hemisphere’s two largest democracies.

SOUTHCOM and SOCSOUTH team up for Norwegian-style ruck march in South Florida

More than 100 military and civilian members from U.S. Southern Command and Special Operations Command South participated in the famed “Norwegian Foot March,” a grueling physical test that includes carrying a 25-pound ruck sack over an 18.6 mile (30 km) distance.

SOUTHCOM Commander Visits Colombia

U.S. Army Gen. Laura Richardson, commander of U.S. Southern Command, wrapped up a three-day visit to Colombia where she met with military leaders to discuss security cooperation. The visit was Richardson’s first official trip to the region since assuming command Oct. 29.

JTF-Bravo redeploys after support to JTF-Haiti

In support of the whole-of-government effort led by the U.S. Agency for International Development’s Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance, Joint Task Force-Bravo (JTF-B) joined forces with Joint Task Force-Haiti (JTF-Haiti) to deliver much-needed aid as rapidly as possible to victims of the recent 7.2 magnitude earthquake in Haiti, Aug. 15-Sept.9.

South Carolina National Guard conducts “Band-Aids not bullets diplomacy” in Colombia

South Carolina Army and Air National Guard medical personnel conducted a real-world humanitarian medical mission in the remote town of Tamana, Colombia last weekend during the regional Ángel de los Andes (Angel of the Andes) and Cooperación VII exercises. Approximately 30 members of the South Carolina National Guard are participating in the exercises from August 30 to September 10.

USS Billings and USNS Burlington Support Haiti Relief

CARIBBEAN SEA - The Freedom-variant littoral combat ship USS Billings (LCS 15) and USNS Burlington (T-EPF-10), a spearhead-class expeditionary fast transport ship, operated by Military Sealift Command are supporting humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations off the coast Haiti, Aug. 22.
