Department of Defense Engagement in the Western Hemisphere

This fact sheet is released on the occasion of the XV Conference of Defense Ministers of the Americas (CDMA), which convened on July 25-29, 2022, in Brasilia, Brazil, hosted by the Brazilian Ministry of National Defense. CDMA is the premier hemispheric defense ministerial for strategic-level engagement with the top defense officials of the Americas, and convenes every two years. U.S. Secretary of Defense William Perry established and hosted the first CDMA in 1995. U.S. Secretaries of Defense have attended every CDMA since its inception. Chile’s Ministry of National Defense hosted the last CDMA virtually in 2020.

U.S. Army South hosted the 35th cycle of the Conference of American Armies Specialized Conference on Interoperability and Strategic Planning at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston last week which included participants representing 16 armies across North and South America.

1-228th Aviation Regiment and U.S. Navy build Central American support capability

Resolute Sentinel medical personnel support ultrasound capabilities in rural Honduras

Members of the 774th Expeditionary Operational Medical Readiness Squadron, under the command of the 474th Air Expeditionary Group, conducted an evidence-based knowledge exchange with local healthcare providers on the installation and use of a diagnostic ultrasound system in Orocuina, Honduras, June 29 as part of exercise Resolute Sentinel 22 (RS22).

DoD Announces Women, Peace, and Security 2022 Report

The White House announced the release of the 2022 U.S. Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) Congressional Report. This is the second report of its kind that evaluates the progress made towards advancing the goals of the 2019 U.S. Women, Peace, and Security Strategy by the four implementing Departments and Agencies identified in the U.S. WPS Act of 2017 – the Department of State, U.S. Agency for International Development, the Department of Homeland Security, and the Department of Defense.

Joint Interagency Task Force South Changes Command

Joint Interagency Task Force-South held a change of command ceremony at the Tennessee Williams Theatre in Key West July 15, 2022. U.S. Coast Guard Rear Adm. Douglas Fears relinquished Command to U.S. Coast Guard Rear Adm. Mark Fedor during the ceremony attended by members of the task force, dozens of dignitaries from foreign partner nations and officials from the local community.
