USS Chafee (DDG 90) Conducts SM-2 Missile Launch
U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command / U.S. 4th Fleet
July 19, 2017 | 0:48
PACIFIC OCEAN (July 19, 2017) - USS Chafee (DDG 90) conducts a missile exercise (MISSILEX) by launching a standard missile (SM) 2. The MISSILEX was performed with Chafee and partner nation Peruvian Frigate BAP Maritegui. Maritegui launched a BQM-74E drone, simulating a subsonic anti-cruise missile that cruised at approximately 1,000 feet above sea level at 460 knots which Chafee's SM-2 missile successfully engaged and destroyed. Chafee is deployed to the U.S. 4th Fleet area of responsibility in support of UNITAS 2017. UNITAS is an annual exercise that focuses on strengthening our existing regional partnerships and encourages establishing new relationships through the exchange of maritime mission-focused knowledge and expertise throughout the exercise.
