Air Force veteran and wounded soldier, Colton Read, presents 9 year-old, Diego Mercado a new recumbent bike during a surprise presentation ceremony at Army South on Joint Base San Antonio - Fort Sam Houston, Texas, on Dec. 11, 2015. Generous donations from family and friends made this gift possible. Diego's father, Capt. Jason Mercado, is stationed with U.S. Army South. Diego wants to be a soldier like his father. He was inspired to start competing in races when he was 7 after watching some wounded soldiers compete in a race. Diego remarked to his dad that they were like him and that he wanted to do that also. Diego will be competing in his first race with his new bike at a wounded warrior event in January 2016.
