UNITAS LXII Opening Ceremony Takes Place in Lima

LIMA, Peru – Naval and Marine forces from Argentina, Australia, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, France, Germany, Italy, Jamaica, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Spain, South Korea, United Kingdom, Uruguay, and the United States gathered for the opening ceremony for UNITAS LXII, the longest running multinational maritime exercise, in Lima, Peru, Sept. 27.

Coast Guard Cutter Forrest Rednour returns from drug patrol

The crew disrupted illegal narcotics smuggling, seizing more than 5,000 pounds of cocaine that was offloaded in San Diego, Sept. 22. The drugs, worth an estimated $96 million, were seized in international waters of the Eastern Pacific Ocean off the coast of Mexico.

JTF-Bravo redeploys after support to JTF-Haiti

In support of the whole-of-government effort led by the U.S. Agency for International Development’s Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance, Joint Task Force-Bravo (JTF-B) joined forces with Joint Task Force-Haiti (JTF-Haiti) to deliver much-needed aid as rapidly as possible to victims of the recent 7.2 magnitude earthquake in Haiti, Aug. 15-Sept.9.

Haitian-born Black Hawk pilot supports JTF-Haiti earthquake relief efforts

U.S. Army Capt. Alix Idrache, a pilot and future operations planner with the 1st Battalion, 228th Aviation Regiment, Joint Task Force-Bravo (JTF-B), based out of Soto Cano Air Base, Honduras, mobilized in support of Joint Task Force-Haiti (JTF-Haiti) to deliver much-needed aid as rapidly as possible to victims of the recent 7.2 magnitude earthquake in Haiti, Aug. 15-Sept. 9.

USCGC Northland returns home after 80-day Eastern Pacific patrol, Miami drug offload

USCGC Northland (WMEC 904) returned to Portsmouth Monday, following an 80-day patrol in the Eastern Pacific Ocean in support of the Coast Guard Eleventh District and Joint Interagency Task Force South.

571 MSAS launches inaugural WPS seminar in El Salvador

Twenty-eight Salvadoran military members participated in the first-ever Women, Peace and Security seminar including all branches of the Salvadoran military from Aug. 23-27 at the Centro de Entrenamiento de Operaciones de Paz (CEOPAZ), El Salvador. Women, Peace and Security is a United Nations effort to highlight the effect of conflict on women and the importance of including women in security forces and in conflict resolution. This effort aims to promote women leaders within the military and security forces and to develop solutions for a seamless integration.

USS Arlington Returns from Humanitarian Mission in Haiti

NORFOLK, Va. – The San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ship USS Arlington (LPD 24) returns to Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia after deploying to U.S. 4th Fleet area of operation to support a humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) operation in Haiti, Sept. 8.
