Honduran Minister of Defense Visits SOUTHCOM

Honduran Minister of Defense Rixi Moncada Godoy visited U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) Oct. 7 to meet with SOUTHCOM commander, U.S. Army Gen. Laura Richardson, and command leadership to discuss security cooperation.

The minister was accompanied by General of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Armed Forces of Honduras, Gen. Roosevelt Leonel Hernández Aguilar, and Honduran Ambassador to the United States, Javier Efraín BÚ Soto.

In addition to meeting with Richardson, the minister also took part in briefings and discussions on current U.S. military efforts in Latin America and the Caribbean and the longstanding U.S.-Honduran security partnership.

The United States and Honduras share a strong partnership and commitment to regional security. Both nations contribute to countering illicit trafficking and routinely take part in bilateral and multinational training in the region.

Honduras also hosts the U.S. military’s Joint Task Force-Bravo, located at Soto Cano Air Base. The task force supports training engagements, counterdrug missions and humanitarian/disaster relief efforts in the region.

The United States is working in partnership with Honduras to create a safer, more prosperous, and democratic country.
