USS Arlington Returns from Humanitarian Mission in Haiti

NORFOLK, Va. – The San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ship USS Arlington (LPD 24) returns to Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia after deploying to U.S. 4th Fleet area of operation to support a humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) operation in Haiti, Sept. 8.

South Carolina National Guard conducts “Band-Aids not bullets diplomacy” in Colombia

South Carolina Army and Air National Guard medical personnel conducted a real-world humanitarian medical mission in the remote town of Tamana, Colombia last weekend during the regional Ángel de los Andes (Angel of the Andes) and Cooperación VII exercises. Approximately 30 members of the South Carolina National Guard are participating in the exercises from August 30 to September 10.

Army South hosts 2nd Operation Alamo Shield Mission Prep for rotating Security Force Assistance Teams

U.S. Army South hosted the second pre-deployment training seminar, Operation Alamo Shield Mission Prep, at their headquarters Aug. 31-Sept. 1 to prepare teams assigned to the 1st Security Force Assistance Brigade for future training and advising missions in Colombia, Honduras and Panama.

Service members with Joint Task Force-Bravo, representatives from Blue Shield International, the Virginia Museum of Natural History, the Honduran Institute of Anthropology (HIA) and Honduran military forces partnered for a unique and first of its kind subject matter expert exchange, Aug. 23-26, to learn how to identify cultural heritage sites in the department of Olancho.

DOD Continues Providing Humanitarian Assistance to Haiti

Joint Task Force Haiti has conducted some 364 full-spectrum missions, using DOD and U.S. Coast Guard assets, which have assisted in saving about 436 lives and delivered vital aid to earthquake victims, according to an official with the Joint Staff.
