USNS Spearhead Set to Deploy, Continuing Promise 2017 Begins

Continuing Promise 2017 (CP-17) will begin early next week with the deployment of the Military Sealift Command-operated expeditionary fast transport vessel, USNS Spearhead (T-EPF 1), to the U.S. Southern Command area of responsibility.

MAYPORT, Fla. (Aug. 02, 2016) – The Cyclone-class Patrol Coastal USS Shamal (PC 13) returns to homeport U.S. Naval Station Mayport after a 62 day deployment to the 4th Fleet area of responsibility where they conducted counter illicit trafficking operations in support of Operation Martillo. Operation Martillo is a joint international low enforcement and military operation involving U.S., European and Western Hemisphere partner nations, targeting illicit trafficking routes in the waters off Central America. Southcom Commander Describes Complex Global Security Threats

WASHINGTON — A spectrum of state and nonstate actors across multiple regions and domains calls for a new way of harnessing the maritime domain, the commander of U.S. Southern Command said during a Surface Navy Association symposium.

The Coast Guard transferred custody of four suspected smugglers and multiple bales of cocaine to U.S. federal law enforcement authorities at Coast Guard Sector San Juan, Puerto Rico Jan. 8, 2017. Coast Guard offloads $30 million worth of seized cocaine in San Juan, Puerto Rico

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — The Coast Guard offloaded approximately 2,000 pounds of seized cocaine worth an estimated $30 million in wholesale value and transferred custody of four suspected smugglers to U.S. federal law enforcement authorities at Coast Guard Sector San Juan Sunday.
