Fuerzas Comando 2017 Special Forces Competition Begins in Paraguay

Fuerzas Comando is a multinational special operations skills competition and combating terrorism fellowship program sponsored by U.S. Southern Command and executed by SOCSOUTH. Ten countries have shared the responsibility of hosting the event. The first year the competition was held in El Salvador and 13 countries participated. Since then the involvement in the competition has expanded and Paraguay is this year's hosting country.

Twelfth Air Force (Air Forces Southern) hosted the first speaker series in their Academic Outreach Program with the University of Arizona at Club Ironwood, June 19. The intent of the speaker series is to facilitate the exchange ideas between government and academic institutions while fostering collaborative discussions about global issues. This 12th Air Force (Air Forces Southern) Academic Outreach Program is modeled after U.S Southern Command’s partnership with Florida International University.

An Interview with Kurt W. Tidd

The new National Military Strategy exists as a result of some fundamental changes in the geopolitical landscape. Leaving the Joint Staff and going to USSOUTHCOM, I had the benefit of spending several years listening as both General [Martin E.] Dempsey and then General [Joseph F.] Dunford began to develop this strategy, particularly General Dunford. The National Military Strategy focuses on multidomain security challenges that are now global security challenges. It provides a useful intellectual organizing construct by going to a regional geographic command and thinking through the role of a geographic combatant command as a member of an enterprise.
