USA, Brazil Share Experiences During SMEE

U.S. service members assigned and attached to Special Operations Command South and the 1st Psychological Operations Battalion from the Command of Special Operations of the Brazilian Army, participated in a subject matter expert exchange April 15-19, 2019, in Gioânia, Brazil.

U.S. Army dentists Lt. Col. Eric Unkenholz, Col. Murray Thompson, and Maj. Kevin Donlin and Staff Sgt. Samantha Wempe, dental technician, all with the South Dakota National Guard, perform dental work and tooth extractions on adults and children in Albina, Suriname, April 10, 2019. A SDARNG medical/dental team partnered with Suriname military and civilian medical personnel to assist with ongoing efforts of improving systemic and oral health in the region.

S.D. Guard, Suriname join to provide medical, dental care

Soldiers from the South Dakota Army National Guard traveled to the South American county of Suriname to provide medical and dental services to the population of Albina, April 10-12.

Belize Youth Challenge Program cadre mentor YCP cadets during the agriculture class at the Belize YCP near Belize City, Belize. The Belize YCP is a two-phase program designed to teach 15-17 year old at risk males how to be productive members of their communities. The program in Belize is modeled after the Louisiana National Guard's YCP.

On April 12, I had the honor of leading an interagency team of United States senior officials and experts to U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) headquarters in Miami, Florida, where I hosted ministers and disaster management officials from 18 Caribbean countries, the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency, and the Regional Security System to launch the new “U.S.-Caribbean Resilience Partnership.

Coast Guard offloads 14,000 pounds of marijuana and 3,660 pounds of cocaine at Port Everglades

MIAMI — The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Bear (WMEC-901) offloaded approximately 14,000 pounds of marijuana worth an estimated $12.5 million wholesale and 3,660 pounds of cocaine worth an estimated $50 million wholesale Thursday at Port Everglades seized in international waters in the Eastern Pacific Ocean.

Guyana to Host New Horizons Humanitarian Assistance Exercise

New Horizons, the U.S. Southern Command’s annual training exercise, kicks off in Linden next month. The three month event will train U.S. military civil engineers and medical professionals, who will work alongside Guyanese military and health professionals in joint humanitarian assistance exercises.

CENTAM SMOKE brought together firefighters from Honduras, Costa Rica, Belize, Guatemala and El Salvador to train with U.S. Air Force members as well as develop bonds and understandings of one another’s culture with team building exercises. Capt. West: Living her aviation dream

SOTO CANO AIR BASE, Honduras — Not many jobs hold as much appeal as that of a pilot. The freedom, the blue skies and the adventure draws people from all walks of life to find a way to get their flying license. Often times, those wide-eyed dreamers find a recruiter’s office to be a great avenue for their aspirations.
